New Jersey’s defending Non-Public B state champ DePaul Catholic will play another challenging schedule in 2025. The Spartans, who finished last year at No. 42 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, recently released their ’25 slate that features four teams that finished nationally-ranked last year.
The season will begin the same way 2024 ended, with a rematch of their state championship game against Pope John XXIII on August 23. DePaul beat the Lions 33-21 at Met Life Stadium, home of the NFL‘s New York Giants and Jets. The Spartans also beat Pope John in its season opener last year.
In Week 2, DePaul Catholic will face Washington Catholic Athletic Conference-power Good Counsel (Maryland), which finished No. 77 in the HSFA 300. Last season, the Spartans beat the Falcons 28-17. At the time, GC was ranked No. 10 in the nation.
Week 3 will see DePaul play New York’s Archbishop Stepinac, a team that was highly-ranked nationally in 2023, but fell to 1-10 last season.
The other 2024 nationally-ranked teams on the team’s schedule are: No. 106 Don Bosco Prep, No. 124 St. Joseph (Montavle, New Jersey) and No. 180 Delbarton
DePaul Catholic is led by Nick Campanile, who has led the Spartans to a 33-15 record in his four seasons as the program’s head coach. He’s the younger brother of Vito Campanile, who led Bergen Catholic to its fourth straight Jersey Non-Public A titles. DePaul has one two state titles in the last three years.
Making 2025 bright is the return of quarterback Derek Zammit, a 4-star college football prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Zammit has 21 college scholarship offers.
