Basha beat Saguaro 28-21 Saturday night to deny the Sabercats back-to-back Arizona Open Division state championships. The title is the first-ever for the Bears, who entered the game ranked No. 54 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. Saguaro started the contest No. 48 in the nation.
Senior running back Deshaun Buchanan ran for 199 yards and three touchdowns in the game that was played at Arizona State’s Sun Devil Stadium.
Saguaro tried to get a tying score late in the game, but the Basha defense got the game-winning stop.
