Friday night’s showdown between High School Football America 300 teams No. 89 Rome and No. 86 Creekside will not be played. The reason several Rome players are still recovering from injuries they received in a bus accident last Thursday.
Rome head coach John Reid told Atlanta News First, “We obviously want to play the game if possible, but after the players were evaluated by physicians we realized that it was not in their best interest to suit up and play on Friday. We hope everyone understands this measure, but the safety of our student-athletes comes first.

In all, eleven people were injured when the Rome bus rolled-over and hit a tree after a scrimmage at Rockmart.
The game was scheduled to be part of the 33rd annual Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic.
Rome will now wait until August 30 to play its opener. That’s when the Wolves will face No. 43 Carrollton.
Creekside will open its regular season next week against defending South Carolina 4A champ Westside, ranked No. 140 in the HSFA 300, powered by NFL Play Football.
