And then there were two. As we pointed-out when we named Georgia’s Region 1-AAAAAA the fourth best league in the country, all six teams entered region play with perfect 5-0 records. Friday night, when Colquitt County and Valdosta square-off they will be the only undefeated teams left in the region with 7-0 overall marks and 2-0 within the region.
Colquitt County enters the game ranked #15 in the latest High School Football America Top 25 and #1 in the state. Valdosta, the winningest high school football program in America, is ranked #3 in the state in AAAAAA and owns a two-game win streak against the Packers.
Colquitt County is led on offense by junior quarterback Chase Parrish, who has completed 108-of-147 passes (73.4%) for 1,323 and 14 touchdowns with only three picks. Senior running back Sihiem King has rushed for 772 yards this season with 14 touchdowns. King is averaging over seven yards a carry.
Valdosta has proven that its worthy of its high state ranking with two come-from-behind road wins against Camden County and Tift County.
The Wildcat defense has been very good this year with four shutouts and only 44 points allowed in their seven games.
Earlier this year, I spoke with Colquitt County head coach Rush Probst about this year’s team on High School Football America’s radio show. You can listen to that interview below.
