Friday night’s Southern California battle between nationally-ranked Trinity League powers #7 St. John Bosco and #13 Mater Dei lived-up to its billing with the game coming down to the final drive.

With St. John Bosco (5-1, 1-0 Trinity) clinging to a 28-25 lead and Mater Dei with the ball, the Braves needed their defense to come-up with a big play. It did, by recovering a Monarch fumble at the Mater Dei (5-1, 0-1) 39 to seal the victory.  It was the fifth straight win for Bosco against Mater Dei.

It was the second time in the second half that the Braves D stood tall. Traveon Beck returned a Mater Dei fumble 70 yards to the house that gave Bosco 28-18 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Mater Dei quarterback Jack Lowary had his best passing game of the season completing 20-29 passes for 343 yards. St. John Bosco quarterback Josh Rosen, who appeared to limp much of the second half, threw for 212 yards.

The Monarchs hurt themselves losing three fumbles on the night.

With Servite beating Orange Lutheran 28-25 and JSerra remaining undefeated with 35-28 win over Santa Margarita, here’s what the standing look like after Week 1:
