Controversial high school football coach Rush Propst is no longer the head coach at Pell City High School. Friday, the school district accepted his resignation after one year on the job.
Propst released a statement via X, formerly known as Twitter:
Propst’s resignation came one week after a special board meeting failed to produce a motion to not renew his contract. Pell City finished with only one win last season.
Pell City was Propst’s first head coaching job since being ousted from Valdosta (Georgia), following the 2020 high school football season.
Valdosta fired him in 2021 after just one season (2020) following an investigation by the Georgia High School Association led to the Wildcat program being fined $7,500 and being banned from the ’21 Georgia high school playoffs for “rules violations relating to recruiting and a lack of administrative control.” In addition, the school was forced to forfeit seven 2020 wins in which ineligible players were used.
Success and controversy have followed Propst during his previous three stops at Hoover (Alabama), Colquitt County (Georgia) and Valdosta (Georgia). He won five Alabama state titles at Hoover and two Georgia crowns at Colquitt County, including the 2015 High School Football America national championship.
