In the closest finish ever, St. John Bosco (California) edged-out Miami Central (Florida) for the 2022 High School Football America national championship. It’s the second time that the Braves have been our national champ. They also won the title in 2019.

Over the last four weeks of the season, the two powers were neck-and-neck in our rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm. While, Central closed the gap slightly by winning the Florida 2M title on Friday by beating No. 8 American Heritage (Plantation), it wasn’t enough.

Below is a snapshot of some of the areas where Bosco held an edge over the Rockets:

Miami Central67.07%8132

Following Central in our final rankings for the season is St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) at No. 3. Both teams have won four straight Florida high school football championships.

Mater Dei (California), the only team to beat Bosco this year, finishes No. 4. The Monarchs, the 2021 national champs, began the season ranked No. 1 and stayed there until losing to SJB in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 championship Thanksgiving weekend.

Since 2017, Bosco and Mater Dei have won five of the last six High School Football American national titles.

Bishop Gorman finishes at No. 5. The Gaels only defeat was a narrow three-point loss to Mater Dei.

Gorman strengthen its ranking this weekend when it routed Florida state champ Chaminade-Madonna 49-14 in the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series. The loss dropped C-M from No. 4 to No. 9 in the final rankings.

Texas state champ Duncanville finishes No. 6 after defeating defending state champ and former No. 7 North Shore in the 6A Division I title game Saturday night.

St. Frances Academy (Maryland) checks-in No. 7. Four of the Panthers victories came against state champs — No. 15 DeSoto (Texas), No. 17 Dutch Fork (South Carolina), No. 41 Kahuku (Hawaii) and No. 62 East St. Louis (Louisiana). SFA also beat Florida runner-up Venice.

Florida leads the way with 43 teams in the final Top 300. Texas is next with 36 teams in the national rankings, followed by California with 34 and Georgia with 32 teams in the HSFA 300.

Overall, 208 teams in the final HSFA 300 were ranked in our Preseason Top 300.

Our national rankings are powered by NFL Play Football.
