Texas high school football leads the way with 14 former players in Super Bowl LVI

Super Bowl LVI will feature former high school football players from 28 states, plus the District of Columbia. Leading the way is Texas with six former players on the Cincinnati Bengals’ roster and eight on the Los Angles Rams’ roster.

Thirteen former high schoolers from California will get the honor of playing for a Super Bowl ring in their home state. The Bengals have six Californians on their roster. The Rams have seven guys from Cali playing at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Falling-in behind Texas and California is Florida with 11 players and Georgia with ten.

The Bengals roster has five former high school players from the Buckeye State, including quarterback Joe Burrow, who is trying to become only third quarterback to win a college football national championship and a Super Bowl. Ironically, the other two are also named Joe — Joe Namath (Alabama and the New York Jets) and Joe Montana (Notre Dame and San Francisco 49ers).

Burrow led LSU to the national championship in 2019.

Maryland’s Good Counsel football program is celebrating as the only high school football program in the nation to have two alums in Super Bowl 56. Bengals’ linebacker Keandre Jones graduated from Good Counsel in 2015, while Rams’ cornerback Blake Countless is from the Class of 2011.

We’re using the team’s active rosters on their websites.
