Ferris HS head football coach Aaron Emeyabbi kicks-off Coaches’ Clinic at Adamson High School

The off-season is anything but an off-season. Once again, I am back in DWF for a clinic and another visit with Randy Jackson at Grapevine HS. This time, however, I kidnapped some assistants and brought them along for the trip.

Jake Willingham, Neal Tull and Nate Jephcott all hopped in the Ford Expedition with me and made the five hour trek. It was a great time for us. Just driving and talking ball, life and of course the all important breaking of stones, a time honored tradition amongst football staffs. Seriously, this stuff is great. Your staff is your backbone. Being able to take trips with them is building our program one more brick at a time. These guys are family. If we are family, the Westerners are family. That is a huge step in building your program.

With these guys in tow, we rolled into Adamson HS last night around 5 p.m. for a clinic put together by Josh Ragsdale, the HC at Adamson. What a great, last minute clinic put together by ‘Rags. We came down to talk nutrition timing and educating your players on the importance of nutrition and taking care of your body. Each of my assistants tackled a different topic. They did a tremendous job. I try to get these guys used to public speaking for when their time comes to run their own program. We accomplished a lot last night, in more ways than just football.

Aside from us, ‘Rags had some great speakers lined up. Aaron Emeyabbi, HC at Ferris High, kicked things off with an energetic look into the principles of building a program. He touched on a bunch of things that made a heck of a lot of sense. He has a way of keeping you engaged!

Tony Johnson followed with an outstanding clinic on OL play. All I can say is wow. One of the best I have ever heard talking OL technique. When I say Tony is dynamic, it’s not an exaggeration. He was off the charts good. We took a lot a way from it.

Coach Ragsdale did a great thing by hosting this clinic. Free pizza and drinks and a bunch of coaches talking football. Made many more connections last night. People like ‘Rags get it. I am very honored that he asked us to speak.

Now it’s off to Grapevine and coach Jackson.

Till next time. FIO.
