After the 2016 America Football Coaches Association annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas, High School Football America made a stop at the home of Johnny Manziel, Tivy High School in Kerrville.
Tivy Antler Stadium, which seats over 5,000 fans opened in 1945.
Manziel was the National High School Coaches Association National Player of the Year for the 2010-11 sports season.
During his high school career, Manziel started as a wide receiver during his freshman year, but by the fourth game of his sophomore season, he was splitting time at quarterback. The future Heisman Trophy winner finished his sophomore season with 1,164 yards passing, 806 rushing and 408 receiving for a combined 28 touchdowns.
During his junior season, Manziel was the program’s full-time starting QB. His junior stats were 2,903 passing yards, 1,544 rushing yards, 152 receiving yards with 55 total touchdowns.
The numbers grew during his senior year. Manziel completed 228-of-347 (65.7%) passing for 3,609 yards with 45 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also had 170 carries for 1,674 yards and 30 touchdowns. He had one touchdown reception and returned a kickoff for a touchdown, which gave him 77 total TD’s.
For Manziel’s three years as a starter, he completed 520-of-819 passes (63.5%) for 7,626 yards and 76 touchdowns. He carried the ball 531 times for 4,045 yards with 77 touchdowns. Manziel caught 30 passes for 582 yards and another five touchdowns.
