It’s a quick turnaround for Virginia high school football players this year. With COVID-19 pushing the 2020 season into this past spring, teams that made it to the state championships have less than four months between games.

If you look at the top players on the 247Sports.com Composite Rankings, you’ll see that many of the state’s top players are still undecided on their college football choices. The top five players in the Commonwealth are uncommitted.

The state’s top player, Zach Rice of Liberty Christian Academy, has a long list of suitors. The 5-star offensive tackle currently has 35 college scholarship offers with a top five of Alabama, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Virginia.

Rice, who is listed at 6-6, 282-pounds, is consider the top offensive tackle in the nation and the fifth best overall college football prospect in the nation.

Rice’s teammate, quarterback Davis Lane is the No. 29 recruit in the state. Lane, who along with Rice, led Liberty Christian to the Virginia 3A state semifinals in the spring.

Lane will be staying in-state for his college football, giving his verbal to the University of Virginia.

Cornerback Tayvon Holloway of Green Run is the highest ranked prospect with a verbal commitment. Holloway, the No. 6 recruit in the state, has given his verbal to North Carolina.

Life Christian Academy, which plays an independent national schedule, has four players on the list led by offensive tackle Trevyon Green, who is considered the No. 16 recruit in Virginia. Like Holloway, Green has given his verbal to head coach Mack Brown in Chapel Hill, which gives the Tar Heels three of the top players from Virginia. The other NC verbal comes from the No. 7 recruit, wide receiver Tychaun Chapman of Prince Anne.
