Eleanor Roosevelt (Maryland) head coach Thomas Green is the latest Washington Commanders High School Coach of the Week.
Below is what the Commanders have written about Coach Green winning the award:
Green, then school’s Athletic Director and head coach, has been a pillar in Prince George’s County athletics for over 16 years. Known for his dedication both on and off the field, Coach Green is a constant source of motivation and support, not just for the football players he coaches but for every student-athlete at Eleanor Roosevelt. His impact extends far beyond the field, as he continually motivates and uplifts not just his players but every student-athlete in the school.
Known for going the extra mile, Coach Green is one of the first to arrive and last to leave, ensuring both the football program and athletic department at Eleanor Roosevelt thrive under his leadership. Coach Green’s emphasis on health and safety is a key component of his leadership. He prioritizes hydration, body recovery, and the well-being of his players by consistently advocating for resources that support optimal performance. Coach Green is described by his community as a selfless, passionate leader whose dedication to creating a supportive environment has earned him great respect.
About the Washington Commanders Coach of the Week Award
The High School Coach of the Week Program is an NFL initiative that aims to highlight local high school football coaches who consistently demonstrate a dedication to their programs, their players’ health and safety, and making a difference in their community. The winning coaches are selected by a panel of Washington Legends and Commanders staff, and each coach will receive a $2,000 donation for their football program from the Washington Commanders Charitable Foundation. All Coaches recognized throughout the season will be invited to the Commanders home game against the Dallas Cowboys to network with other Coach of the Week award recipients for an end-of-season celebration. In addition, these Coaches are eligible to be named the Washington Commanders’ nominee for the Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year award towards the end of the season.
