high school football america releases its preeason top 300 high school football rankings
gamestrat high school football sideline instant replay

The 10th annual High School Football America national preseason high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, are out. The HSFA 300 is created with our proprietary algorithm.

Reigning national champ Mater Dei (Santa Ana, California) starts 2022 at No. 1. The Monarchs will be looking for their fourth national title in the last eight years.

The battle for the top spot in the nation will be in Southern California’s Trinity League. St. John Bosco (Bellflower, California) begins the year at No. 2.

The two national heavyweights will meet October 7 in what could be the first of two matchups between them. Between 2016 and 2019, the Braves and Monarchs played their Trinity League regular season game and followed it up with a playoff game.

SJB owns a national title from 2019, which means the Trinity League has won the last four national titles in non-COVID years. IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida) won the 2020 national crown, but California only played an abbreviated spring school, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Georgia’s Buford checks-in at No. 3. The Wolves are moving-up to Georgia’s largest classification (7A) after winning three straight titles. The last two titles came in 6A. The 2019 state championship was in 5A.

Buford owns 14 overall state titles. The Wolves have won those titles in every possible classification, starting with its Class 1A title in 1978. No other team in Georgia has been able to move-up with that type of success.

St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Maryland) starts at No. 4 thanks to a challenging schedule that will have the Panthers crisscrossing the country. SFA will have six Top 100 head-to-head matchups in Florida, Hawaii, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas.

New Jersey’s Bergen Catholic rounds-out the Top 5. The defending Non-Public A champs finished last season ranked No. 3 in the HSFA 100.

Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) defending champ St. John’s College High School (Washington, DC) opens 2022 at No. 6, followed by IMG at No. 7, North Shore (Houston, Texas) at No. 8, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) at No. 9 and Duncanville (Texas) at No. 10.

Florida leads the way with six teams in the Top 25. Texas has five teams. California and Georgia have three teams each.

Like Southern California’s Trinity League, WCAC also has two teams in the Top 25. Joining St. John’s is Good Counsel at No. 15. Those two met for the league title last fall.
