In a year that expectations were high, lessons will be learned.
After a great offseason, things quickly unraveled as the season began. Our senior wide receiver gets hurt while playing summer league basketball and is not fully healthy until this week. Then in our first game against the #1 team in the state, our starting QB gets the stomach flu on the trip to the game…he plays, but struggles.
Then 2 weeks later we lose our starting RB to a broken collarbone break. The following week we lose his back up for the remainder of the season.
Now this week Homecoming, but we may be without our third string RB due to strep throat.
What does this do to a team, a coaching staff and a community? Well it teaches us that character is of vital importance in this sport and in life. When things are going bad do you cave or do you find a way to get things done?
While the wins have not come this season, I have never been more proud of a team then I have of this one. We have become a close knit team that will fight for one another and will keep pushing towards that first win.
Time to show that Scooper Pride tonight at Homecoming!
Editor’s note: Bill Godsil is in his second year as head coach at Sturgis Brown High School. The Scoopers are 0-5 coming into their game against Hot Springs High School.
