For the first time since 1982, Thompson is an Alabama high school football champ. Wednesday night, the Warriors beat defending state champ Central (Phenix City) 40-14 in a rematch of the 2018 7A championship game won by Central.
Thompson quarterback Sawyer Pate threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more for the school’s second overall state championship. Pate was named the game’s MVP after completing 14-of-22 passes for 239 yards.

On defense, Thompson was led by 5-star sophomore defensive end Jeremiah Alexander, who recorded seven tackles with 3.5 of them for a loss. He also recorded a sack and forced a fumble that he recovered.
Thompson entered the game No. 19 in the High School Football America 100, while Central was No. 12. Thompson finishes with a 12-1 record, while Central wraps-up with a 12-2 mark.
