While nothing is official, as far as the start of the 2020 high school football regular season in the Bluegrass State, it sure looks like there could be a delay. On Friday, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association decided to cancel the start of Fall sports camps that were set to begin on July 15.
The KHSAA did affirm that it plans on having sports in the Fall, but it also kept in place its current restrictions on voluntary practices due to the coronavirus pandemic through at least August 2. The big question is can the state still open the 2020 high school football season as planned on August 21?
The answer is probably yes, if there are no further delays in opening Fall camps. Teams have been holding voluntary workouts since June 15, but those consist mainly of conditioning and skills training in small groups of ten student-athletes at a time with a coach.
The state’s governing body is tentatively set to meet again on July 28 to decide whether camps can open on August 3.
So far, seven states have officially moved to move the start of their high school football season to later than scheduled.
