48 girls flag high school football teams from Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be in South Philadelphia Saturday to take part in the Philadelphia Eagles 2nd annual jamboree. It’s part of the NFL team’s ongoing commitment to grow the game of girls flag at the high school level.
All of the teams are part of the 2023 Eagles Girls Flag Initiative presented by Gatorade, Hilco and Planet Fitness.
Throughout the day, each team will take part in a live scrimmage game and a personalized photoshoot. To ensure athletes are well equipped and properly outfitted for competition, each participant will receive two sports bras through a recently announced partnership between the Eagles and Operation Warm. In addition, new teams to the league will receive the following equipment, all of which were provided to teams that participated in the inaugural season:
- $3,000 stipend
- Customized Nike uniforms
- Port-a-Fields provided by USA Football
- NFL Flag Kits for use in the upcoming season
Launched in 2022 to provide more opportunities for female participation in sport, the girls high school flag football league began with 15 schools from the Philadelphia Public and Catholic Leagues. Now entering its second season, the league has grown to 52 teams across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with the goal to make girls flag football an official sanctioned sport in the state of Pennsylvania. The 2022 Eagles Girls Flag Champions, Lansdale Catholic, will be one of the teams participating.
