After losing to West Haven on opening night, Staples gained revenge Saturday with a 21-20 win over the Blue Devils for the Class LL Connecticut state championship. With 1:15 to go in the game, West Haven went for a 2-point conversion and the win. The Staples defense was equal to the task to give the school its first state championship since 2005.
