The Las Vegas Raiders this week named Quincy Burts, from Canyon Springs High School, was named the Tom Flores High School Coach of the Week after his team defeated Arcadia (California) 18-14 in the opening week of the season.
Canyon Springs jumped out to an 18-0 lead on Arcadia, but was forced to make a goal-line stand to hold on. This is Coach Burts first win as head coach of Canyon Springs following his time previously at Valley High School.
Named after two-time Raiders Super Bowl winning Head Coach and recently enshrined Pro Football Hall of Famer Tom Flores, the Tom Flores High School Coach of the Week Program is designed to recognize high school football coaches who continuously demonstrate hard work and dedication to their football programs by creating successful teams and players both on and off the field.
Each week during the high school football season, the Raiders will present a Coach of the Week recipient in Las Vegas with a $1,000 donation from the Raiders Foundation to the school’s football program. At the conclusion of the season, a coach will be named the Tom Flores High School Coach of the Year and will be the Raiders’ nominee for the Don Shula Coach of the Year award.
A Raiders Alumnus will present Coach Burts with the Tom Flores Coach of the Week award during a presentation at the school in front of the team prior to practice on August 31.
