There’s a new leader at Colquitt County (Georgia), but the Packers will continue to play a top-notch schedule. Justin Jones is taking-over for Rush Propst, who led the school to four state championship appearances in five years with two titles in 2014 and 2015. The Packers captured High School Football America’s “mythical” national championship in 2015.
This year, the Packers, who finished No. 27 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, will play Florida-power Trinity Christian Academy from Jacksonville, in addition to its usual Georgia-powers and its Region 1-AAAAAAA schedule against Camden County, Lowndes and Tift County.
Colquitt County’s opener will be against North Gwinnett on August 24 in the Corky Kell Classic at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Packers lost to North Gwinnett in the 2017 Class 7A championship game when the Bulldogs won on a walk-off field goal. The Packers turned the tables last year, shutting-out the defending state champs 45-0 in the state quarterfinals.
Another big non-region game will take place on September 27 when the Packers welcome Grayson to town. Last year, CC beat Grayson 26-14 during the regular season.
The week before on September 20, it will be a matchup of 2018 runner-ups when Warner Robins travels to Moultrie. Last year’s 5A runner-ups lost to Colquitt County 41-14 during the regular season.
The Packers will close-out the regular season with its showdown against regional-foe Lowndes, which advanced to the 7A state semis last season.
