Eric Weddle: From Super Bowl Champ to High School Football Coach

Eric Weddle is having an incredible 2022.

In January, after a two-year retirement from the NFL, the California native signed with the Los Angeles Rams, which led to winning a Super Bowl ring last Sunday. Six days later, Weddle is announced as the future head football coach at Rancho Bernardo High School outside of San Diego.

Weddle will join the Rancho Bernardo staff as an assistant for the 2022 season. He’ll learn the ropes of RB football program from current head coach Tristan McCoy, who is stepping down at the end of the 2022 season. McCoy will then stay on the staff when the 37-year old Weddle takes-over as head coach in 2023.

Weddle was a two-star cornerback coming-out of Alta Loma High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California in the Class of 2003. In addition to playing football, Weddle played baseball and basketball with the Braves.

A two-way starter at wide receiver and defensive back at Alta Loma, Weddle was known as a do it all guy. In fact, he played quarterback for the Braves in 2002.

Weddle’s senior numbers were incredible. On defense, he amassed 129 tackles with 5 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles and 5 recovered fumbles. As the head of the offense, the future Utah All-American, ran for 587 yards with 22 touchdowns. He threw for 965 yards with five touchdown passes.

As a junior and a senior, Weddle was named to the All-CIF Southern Section team.
