For the first time ever, Liberty finishes the season as the top team in the High School Football America Arizona Top 10 high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. The Lions captured their first Open Division title in early December by beating No. 2 Centennial 33-21. It was the second time in a month that the Lions beat the state’s No. 2 team.
Overall, the state title was the second for Liberty, which won the 6A title in 2019. The Lions only loss in ’23 was to national power Corona Centennial (California).
Liberty finished No. 17 in the HSFA 300, the highest-ever national ranking for the school.

2022 Open Division champ Basha finishes No. 3 in the state, followed by Highland at No. 4, Chandler at No. 5, Hamilton at No. 6, 6A champ Saguaro at No. 7, American Leadership Academy (Queen Creek) at No. 8, 5A champ Higley at No. 9 and Salpointe Catholic at No. 10.
