Being born and raised in the northeast, this is my favorite time of year and my favorite story to write each and every year. It’s time for Turkey Day football!
Personally, I’ll be at Lafayette College’s Fisher Field for the 112th battle between Easton (Pennsylvania) and Phillipsburg (New Jersey), which will be played before a sellout crowd, as usual. These two communities are only separated by the Delaware River and the rivalry is so intense and colorful that ESPN has shown the game LIVE twice.
Turkey Day high school football is a northeast thing with a large majority of the game being played in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
With frigid temperatures expected throughout the northeast, many games were moved to Wednesday before the big chill set in. But when it comes to Easton/P’burg and other big Turkey Day battles, the games will be played in the element(s).
The oldest public school Thanksgiving rivalry in the nation will be played Thursday at Needham High School in Massachusetts between the Rockets and Wellesley. Thursday’s game will be No. 131 in the series.
