The top seven teams in the High School Football America Florida Top 25 hold-on to last week’s positions, but beneath that, there’s a complete shuffle.
Viera’s the biggest mover, jumping eight spots to No. 12. The Hawks climb was helped by the fact that Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) beat nationally-ranked DeMatha (Maryland) last Friday. Viera owns a win over Gonzaga and that also helped the Hawks enter the national Top 100 at No. 89.
Cardinal Gibbons also entered the national rankings at No. 99, giving Florida 14 teams in the Top 100. That ties the Sunshine State with Texas for the largest number of teams in the national rankings created with our proprietary algorithm.
There are two new teams in this week’s rankings — Lakeland at No. 20 and Chaminade-Madonna, which began the year ranked No. 9 in the state.
There are three spotlight games this week — No. 6 Northwestern squaring-off with No. 11 Carol City, Chaminade-Madonna faces No. 8 Booker T. Washington (Miami), which has lost three games by a total of three points, and No. 2 American Heritage (Plantation) plays No. 14 Cardinal Gibbons.
