The 49th annual Indiana High School Football State Finals will be played this weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts. The two-day event, featuring six games, is also presented by the Colts.
Highlighting the state championships will be three teams in the High School Football America 100 national high school football rankings powered by NFL Play Football.
In the 6A championship game Saturday night, defending champ Center Grove, ranked No. 8 in the nation, will face No. 93 Westfield. In Friday night’s 5A championship game, No. 25 Cathedral will try to go back-to-back when it faces Zionville.
Center Grove is led by head coach Eric Moore, who was the Colts’ 2020 Coach of the Year. Moore is in his 23rd year as head coach of the Trojans. He owns a 223-72 record with the Trojans and an overall record of 271-77 in 27-years as a high school football head coach.
Westfield head coach Jake Gilbert was named the Colts’ Week 3 Coach of the Week this year. Gilbert is in his 11th year as the head coach at Westfield. He owns a record of 84-47 with the Shamrocks.
3A finalist Brefeuf Jesuit is also coached by a 2021 Colts’ Coach of the Week honoree. Matt Geske, who is in his second season with the Braves, was the Colts first Coach of the Week in August.
Brefeuf Jesuit will play Gibson Southern in the 3A title game Friday afternoon.
Cathedral’s Bill Peebles is 41-11 in his fourth season as the head coach of the Fighting Irish. He was a Colts’ COW honoree in 2020. If the Irish win another state title this weekend, the program will own 14 overall, the second most in the state.
