When Miami’s Booker T. Washington posted it was looking for a new head football coach, many assumed that Tim “Ice” Harris was retiring. Rumors of his retirement are incorrect.

According to the Miami Herald, Mater Academy in Hialeah Gardens has hired Harris, who led BTW to Florida state championships in 2007, 2012 and 2013, as its new head football coach. The hiring drops the curtain on the Harris’ fourth time as the head coach of BTW program where he amassed a record of 169-30.

Harris returned to the Miami school for the 2022 season after serving as the head coach at Florida Memorial, a NAIA college football school.

Last season, BTW finished 10-3 and ranked No. 173 High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. The Tornadoes have been regulars in our national rankings during Harris’ four time at the head of the program. BTW’s highest national ranking with HSFA was No. 3 in 2013.

Last season, under Jase Stewart, Mater Academy finished 6-5, losing to nationally-ranked Atlantic in the 5A palyoffs. Stewart will reportedly become an assistant coach.
