The Nassau County football committee is recommending that the Nassau Athletic Council adopt a 35-point Mercy Rule for the 2022 season. If the Council approves new rule, it would eliminate its current sportsmanship rule.

The current rule required coaches to submit, in writing, what they did to avoid running up the score in games decided by more than 42 points. Under the new rule, a running clock will be implemented when a team goes ahead by 35 points. The clock only stops for a score, a time out or an injury. Should the losing team cut the deficit to 14 points, the game would return to a regular clock and rules.
