Bishop Gorman’s meat-grinder schedule to start the season continues this week in South Florida in the Broward County National Football Showcase. The top-ranked Gaels, after opening with a solid 33-7 win over three-time defending Hawaii Open Division champ Kahuku, will face St. Thomas Aquinas, ranked No. 7 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

BG and St. Thomas Aquinas have a lot of championship hardware in their trophy cases. Gorman has won 13 Nevada state titles in the last 14 years in the state’s largest classification. The Gaels, who won the High School Football America national championship in 2016, finished No. 5 nationally in ’23 in the HSFA.

STA, ranked No. 6 in the HSFA 300 in 2023, set a Florida state record with its fifth straight state title last year. No other team has won that many in a row. The Raiders’ 15 overall state championships are the most in the Sunshine State.

Gorman comes into the contest No. 2 in the HSFA 300. A win against STA and then a win against No. 1 Mater Dei in Southern California on September 6 would put the Gaels in excellent position to capture their second HSFA national crown.

No. 2 Liberty opens against Utah’s Skyridge, ranked No. 123 in the HSFA 300. While this will be Liberty opener, Skyridge will try to bounce back from a last second loss to nationally-ranked Timpview (Utah).

Liberty is ranked No. 132 nationally.

No. 3 Arbor View will also face a nationally-ranked out-of-state opponent. The Aggies will be in San Diego, California to face No. 40 Lincoln.

No. 4 Bishop Manogue will be in Stockton, California to play No. 194 St. Mary’s.

In-state, No. 6 Shadow Ridge opens against No. 10 Spanish Springs, which holds at No. 10 in the last rankings after losing its opener to California’s Simi Valley 33-13.
