The New York Giants and Gatorade have selected Mr. Will Nahan of Randolph High School (Randolph, NJ) as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 8 of the 2022 season. The Randolph Rams finished their regular season with an impressive 24-13 win over rival Morris Knolls on Saturday, improving their record to 7-1. Both teams entered the game with 6-1 records. The Rams’ win enabled them to clinch the No. 2 seed in the NJSIAA North 1 Group 4 playoffs; they will host No. 7 seed Rahway this upcoming Friday.

The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award is part of the Giants’ continuing effort to support local high school football programs. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes’ lives. Each week during the high school football season, the Giants select one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach’s continued commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and contributing overall to their community.

In recognition of Coach Nahan’s selection as Coach of the Week, a $2,000 check will be granted to the school’s football program from The Giants Foundation and Gatorade. Nahan will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll and will be honored at a dinner following the season, as well as a 2023 pre-season home game.

Coach Nahan is in his fifth year as Randolph’s head coach. Nahan has maintained over a .500 record or better in each of his five seasons on his way to a 35-12 cumulative record. He has familiarity with the program prior to his head coaching tenure, too. Nahan served as both a linebacker’s coach and defensive coordinator for three years at Randolph before becoming head coach.

An athlete himself, Nahan played linebacker and defensive end at Lawrence Township. He earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Kean University, where he also was captain of the football team.

“As a team, we will commit ourselves to reaching our full potential in the classroom, on the football field and in life,” Nahan said. “The plan is to encourage the community to embrace the football team with pride as the team involves itself in the community through different opportunities.” Nahan’s dream of becoming a high school football coach was fulfilled in 2018. “This is a place I want to grow and develop,” he said prior to the 2018 season. “Football’s still very important in Randolph. That’s what I love the most. There’s a lot of support from the community and the town. I don’t have to go out looking for kids to play. They’re all here,” he attested.
