Mater Dei quarterback J.T. Daniels threw five touchdown passes Saturday night to beat No. 11 St. John Bosco 49-24 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship game. The win gives the Monarchs, ranked No. 1 in the High School Football America Top 100, their first CIF-SS title since 1999 and moves them into the CIF Open Division championship game in two weeks against No. 15 De La Salle.

Three of Daniels’ TD passes went to Bru McCoy. Daniels also hooked-up with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Nikko Remigio on scoring plays.

St. John Bosco was playing in its fifth straight CIF-SS championship game. The Braves are now 2-3 in those games.
