A fifth national title for Southern California’s Mater Dei High School is now one win away. Friday night, the Monarchs, ranked No. 1 in the High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football, beat arch-rival St. John Bosco for the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship.

Bosco, ranked No. 5 in the HSFA 300, gave the Monarchs all they could handle in a 31-24 slugfest that was very different from their regular season matchup, won by MD 59-14. The CIF title is the 14th overall for the Monarchs.

Oregon-recruit Jordon Davison ran for three touchdowns in the victory.

Mater Dei advances to the CIF Open Division championship game in two weeks where it’s likely to play No. 28 De La Salle.
