Opelousas is celebrating getting its 2023 Louisiana high school football state championship back. The school and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association have reached an agreement that returns the Non-Select Division 2 state title that was stripped due to the use of an ineligible player.

In February, the LHSAA made Opelousas vacate its first-ever football championship and suspended head coach Jimmy Zachery for a year. Zachery will now be allowed to coach the team in 2024 while he is on probation.

The Tigers won the state title with a 24-13 win over Cecelia.
