No matter where I live, the opening day of Pennsylvania high school football practice is special. Monday marked the start of the season with conditioning drills. The pads go on next Monday.

My good friend Phil Stambaugh, head coach at Notre Dame High School at Green Pond in Bethlehem Township told me that this is the message he would give him players on Day 1:
“We have set our expectations high and we intend to work hard to achieve those
goals… it will take everyone of you in the group to get the job done!We want to be a family and emphasize TEAM over self but those can’t be just words we
say it has got to be something we live out each day through the ups and downs of the
season if we truly want to be successful in all we do…Take advantage of your opportunity and make the best of the new season…”
