Steve Fryer of the Orange County Register reports that Santa Margarita and head football coach Rick Curtis have parted ways. The Eagles just wrapped-up a 5-5 season that included a last place Trinity League finish with a 1-4 record.
Here’s what the school said about Curtis in a news release:
“After a great deal of discussion and discernment, Santa Margarita Catholic High School (SMCHS) has decided that its football program will be better served under new leadership,” said Santa Margarita President Andy Sulick. “Effective immediately, Rick Curtis will no longer act as head football coach or have any formal role at SMCHS. Curtis led the SMCHS football program for two full seasons and the school, its athletes, and parents are grateful for his service.”
“I am personally thankful for the dedication of Mr. Curtis, but after much discussion and consideration we feel that for the success of our highly competitive football program we must seek new leadership and energy. We thank Coach Curtis for his service to the football program and to education in Orange County.”
