The ultra-tough Trinity League in California CIF-Southern Section is finally ready to play some 2020 football, even though it’s in 2021. The last time California played high school football in 2019, the Trinity League’s St. John Bosco won the High School Football America “mythical” national championship, which ended Mater Dei’s run of two straight in 2017 and 2018.

This year, with only a six-game regular season and no postseason, both teams aren’t thinking national title, but they both will be using this post-COVID season to get a running start on the 2021 national championship chase.
The good news for Trinity League fans is that there will be a league champ crowned when SJB and Mater Dei collide in the season finale on April 17 in Santa Ana.

You could argue that that game is a national championship matchup, since before the shutdown of football in California, Bosco was ranked No. 1 in our Preseason High School Football America 100 national rankings powered by BlackMP Living Water. Mater Dei was No. 4 in our pre-COVID Preseason 100.
