The Turnaround: Back to Game Week

The bye week has come and gone so it’s now back to game week. And there is nothing better than game week. It’s what we live for in the fall. Football Friday’s. There isn’t anything better!

We had a good bye week, focusing on getting healthy and resting the body. We conditioned last week, installed our game plan and kept the pads away. There wasn’t a need for pads last week. We are way ahead of schedule, in terms of preparation so there was no need to push it last week.

We came back Monday and went full gear and had some live sessions. It was a good way to start the week. It feels good to be back into full swing and prepping for an opponent.

We used the bye week to our advantage. It came at a perfect time. Now it’s back to work and getting ready for our first district game this Friday. It’s an exciting time of year. It’s time to roll the dice and pull out all the stops!

LCP

We open up district play with the Lubbock Cooper Pirates, otherwise know as LCP. It’s always a stiff challenge playing LCP. They are a perennial playoff team and they are a physical bunch of kids.

As good as LCP is on the field, they are even better off the field. They are an
outstanding program from top to bottom. They do things the right way. That all starts with their HC, Max Kattwinkel.

Kat is as good as they come. We are good friends and share a mutual respect. Last season, after we played LCP, Kat came over and visited with our team as our guest speaker before our Lake View game. Later in the season I spoke to his team at playoff team dinner and gave them a pregame speech before their 3rd round playoff game. I really enjoyed that. We have a special kind relationship. To me, it’s what high school football is all about.

Saturday night, myself and Kat, along with our wives, went out to dinner. How many head coaches get together for dinner the week they play? You won’t find many like us. It was a fun night. We know we play each other Friday and we both want to win. But we didn’t even really talk ball. That’s a great way to escape our daily football lives.

I’m looking forward to Friday, for many reasons. I’m also looking forward to Kat’s yearly blog contribution to LCP week. Always something to look forward to!

As you can see it’s going to be a crazy, busy week. I am looking forward to it.
