Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is 29-yards away from setting a new NFL rushing record. Barkley, who played scholastically at Whitehall High School (Pennsylvania), has rushed for 2,447 yards this year, including 2,005 during the regular season.
If the 6-foot, 238-pounder gets 30-yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 on February 9 in New Orleans, he’ll eclipse former Denver Broncos great Terrell Davis, who ran for 2,476 yards in the Broncos’ 1998 Super Bowl championship season. Davis ran for 2,008 yards during the ’98 regular season and then 468 yards in the postseason.
At Whitehall, a suburb of Allentown, Pennsylvania, which Billy Joel recorded a hit record about, Barkley ran for 3,646 yards with 63 touchdowns.
In 2021, the school retired Barkley’s No. 21, joining two other alums, who had long NFL careers, Matt Millen and Dan Koppen.
