Wren beat defending state champ Myrtle Beach 35-23 Saturday to capture South Carolina’s Class 4A state championship. It was the first state title for Wren, which entered the game ranked No. 7 in the High School Football America South Carolina Top 10. Myrtle Beach entered the contest No. 6 in our statewide rankings.

In the 3A championship game, Chapman capped a perfect 15-0 season with a 44-14 win over Dillon. It was the third time in four years that these two met for the state title with Chapman also winning in 2016.

Mikele Colasurdo threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns, plus he ran for 41 yards and a score. Chapman averaged 56.5 points per game for a total of 847 this season.

For the first time since 1963, Saluda is a state champ. The Tigers beat Barnwell 39-14 for the 2A state title.

Green Sea Floyds won its second straight state title when it beat Ridge Spring-Monetta 48-12 in the Class A championship game. The Trojans’ ground game was rolling with junior Jaquan Dixon gaining 132 yards with three touchdowns. Bubba Elliott gained 122 yards and scored two TDs.
