There’s been a lot of chatter about adding a seventh classification in Texas with the upcoming bi-annual reclassification next year. Those rumors have been put to rest by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the state’s governing body.
Earlier this week, at the 91st Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Convention, UIL Deputy Director Dr. Jamey Harrison said the organization will stick with its six classifications through the 2025 high school football season.
The main reason against the expansion is there aren’t enough schools to create a new class.
The UIL reclassifies teams every two years based upon a school’s enrollment.
