Orange Lutheran‘s meat-grinder of a schedule took the Lancers, ranked #14 in the latest High School Football America/SoCal Top 25, to #12 Crespi Friday night.

OLu improved to 2-0 with a 43-28 win over the Celts behind Dominik Austin‘s 160 yards rushing on just 12 carries. Austin also scored two touchdowns. This one was never in-doubt as the Lancers got out to a 43-7 lead.
No rest for Chuck Petersen‘s team as they will face nationally-ranked Corona Centennial at home next Friday.

The OLu/Crespi game was one of six games Friday night that featured head-to-head match-ups between teams in the SoCal Top 25.
For the second week in a row, #3 Mater Dei took down a ranked team. The Monarchs beat #19 Tesoro 35-14 behind running back Brandon LaMarche‘s 204 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The game marked the debut of freshman quarterback JT Daniels, who was 8-of-12 for 146 yards and a touchdown. Daniels entered in the first quarter after Matt McDonald suffered what Steve Fryer of the Orange County Register reports was a forearm fracture, according to Mater Dei head coach Bruce Rollinson.
#4 Bishop Amat rebounded from its Week 0 loss to Mater Dei by beating #24 Servite 28-10. The Lancers did it without receiver Trevon Sidney. The USC verbal commit may miss several weeks with a knee injury.
Picking-up the slack was quarterback Damien Garcia who threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Vaughns, who is also a USC verbal, caught nine of the passes for 107 yards and two TDs.
#13 Norco moved to 2-0 with a 29-26 win over #17 Rancho Cucamonga. Tanner Vanscourt scored the winning touchdown on a 44 yard touchdown run with 2:48 to go in the game.
For those of you that missed it — on Thursday night, #6 Long Beach Poly beat #7 Narbonne 20-17 in a see-saw affair with six lead changes.
The cherry-on-the-sundae of Top 25 match-ups is tonight in Oceanside at The Honor Bowl where #1 Corona Centennial plays #5 Serra (Gardena). Before the Centennial/Serra game, #18 Oaks Christian will face Cathedral Catholic.

The only SoCal Top 25 team to lose Friday night was #20 Westlake, which lost 28-18 to Red Mountain from Arizona. The Red Mountain defense held the Warriors to just 37 yards rushing.
#8 Mission Viejo improved to 3-0 with a 56-27 win over Oak Hills. After trailing 7-0, the Diablos roared back behind Isaiah Miller who ran for 160 yards on just ten carries for four touchdowns.
#9 Redlands East Valley, opened defense of its Division II state title, with a 51-42 win over Chaminade. It was a battle between the last two CIF Division II champs. REV was led by junior quarterback Armando Herrera, who threw three touchdown passes and ran for one.
#10 Vista Murrieta traveled to Washington and put a hurtin’ on Ballard 71-32. Broncos’ receiver Kyle Williams had four catches for 261 yards and three touchdowns.
#11 Alemany is 2-0 after a 42-0 win over Colony at The Honor Bowl. Jordan Anderson and Guy Alford each had two rushing touchdowns.
#15 Santa Margarita cruised to a 59-14 win over Corona Santiago. Standford-bound quarterback K.J. Costello was 17-of-21 for 432 yards and four touchdowns.
On Thursday, #16 Los Alamitos opened with a 49-12 win over Paramount. The Griffins were led by Jack Telenko, who passed for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
#21 Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks rebounded from last week’s loss to Oaks Christian with a 42-6 win over Birmingham. Running back Leo Lambert scored four touchdowns.
#22 Loyola, playing its first-ever home game in 65 years, rolled by Highland 45-7. The Cubs raced-out to a 38-0 halftime lead.

#23 JSerra improves to 2-0 after 42-14 win over Chino Hills. Riley O’Brien had two touchdown passes for the Lions.
