Elaine Schellberg of Monroe-Woodbury High School in Central Valley, NY has been named this week’s Girls Flag High School Coach of the Week Game Changer presented by Visa. Coach Schellberg will receive a $2,000 donation to benefit the school’s flag football program. Along with the monetary award, Coach Schellberg will be invited to attend the New York Jets preseason game in August, where she will be honored on field at MetLife Stadium.

In its first year, the Jets Girls Flag High School Coach of the Week Game Changer presented by Visa award is given to a coach in the Tri-State area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

The Crusaders – led by Schellberg- finished the regular season on a five-game winning streak to end 10-3. In their last five wins, they have combined for 175 points of total offense. Schellberg grew up in Monroe, NY and graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School in 1984. While Girls Flag is new to Monroe Woodbury, Schellberg has previous experience from playing in an adult flag league and even had a short stint with the New York Sharks. Her passion for Flag helped bring the program to MWHS and she says their 10-3 season exceeded her expectations. “I am beyond proud of this group for being such great ambassadors to this sport on and off the field.” Schellberg has worked as a high school physical education teacher for 26 years at Monroe-Woodbury.

Visa and the NFL have teamed up to help teach financial concepts with Financial Football, a fast-paced interactive game that engages students while teaching them money management skills.
