It’s safe to say that Aledo’s Tim Buchanan will go down as one of the greatest coaches of all-time in Texas. Friday, it was announced that the eight-time Texas state champ was retiring after 25-years at the head of the Bearcats program.
Buchanan hangs up his whistle with a lifetime mark of 281-583 and a perfect 8-0 mark in state championship games. In December, he led the school to a state record 11th state title, which is the most for any school in any classification in the Lone Star State. The Bearcats finished No. 81 in the High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football.
Aledo’s legendary football coach Tim Buchanan announced his retirement today, after an illustrious career that included a #txhsfb record 11 state championships for his program (8 as HC, 3 as AD).

Twenty of Buchanan’s teams finished with 10-plus victories and two teams were undefeated.
Buchanan’s numbers would be even better if he hadn’t stepped-down for a five year period to serve as the school’s Athletic Director. During that stretch, Buchanan’s defensive coordinator Steve Wood took-over and led the school to three other state titles in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
Ironically, Wood is now the school AD and he announced his retirement as well on Friday.
Between the two coaches, Aledo has won 111 straight district games. The last time the Bearcats loss in a district contest was October 5, 2007.
Aledo has promoted offensive coordinator Roy Jones to be the program’s new head coach.
