St. Anthony’s (Melville) is the 2022 Catholic High School Football League Class AAA champ, but its runner-up Iona Prep that finishes the regular season No. 1 in the High School Football America New York Top 10, powered by NFL Play Football. The Melville school wrapped-up the outright title with a 27-21 win over No. 3 Archbishop Stepinac.
As far as the statewide rankings, Iona Prep has a slight edge over the Friars, even though St. Anthony’s beat the Gaels 48-42 in their regular season clash. The edge comes via a stronger strength of schedule, a major part of the HSFA rankings algorithm.
