Mater Dei solidifies its No. 1 spot in the California Top 25 high school football rankings

Mater Dei is on its way to a third High School Football America national championship. After beating No. 2 St. John Bosco 42-21 on Friday, the Monarchs are solidly on top of the California Top 25 and the High School Football America 100 national high school football rankings.

If Mater Dei runs the table to a California Open Division championship, the Monarchs will add a 2021 national title to the two they won back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.

In another big SoCal game, Los Alamitos moves-up two spots to No. 8 after beating No. 17 Corona del Mar 42-14 in a battle of unbeatens. The win puts the Griffins in a good position to win the Sunset League. They’ll try to take another step toward the league title this Thursday when they play play No. 22 Edison (Huntington Beach).

Mission Viejo jumps four spots to No. 11 this week after beating former No. 8 Sierra Canyon 27-10. The loss drops the Trailblazers to No. 12.

This week, No. 3 Servite will try to keeps its perfect record when it plays No. 7 Santa Margarita. Last week, the Friars routed Orange Lutheran, which falls a spot to No. 13 this week. OLu will play top-ranked Mater Dei this week.
