California is a big state and that’s why this weekend will mark the start of the playoffs in some areas and the end of the regular season in others.
The playoffs begin in the Southern Section, the state’s largest section, which houses sixteen of the teams in the latest High School Football America California Top 25 powered by NFL Play Football.
At the top of the heap is No. 1 Mater Dei, which wrapped-up the Trinity League championship by beating JSerra. No. 2 St. John Bosco finishes second in the league with a 24-10 win over No. 3 Servite.
The only change in the latest rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm is at No. 14 and No. 15 where Sierra Canyon and Central (Fresno) flip-flop positions. Sierra Canyon, which played one of the toughest schedules in the state, sits at No. 14 heading into its CIF Division 2 opening round game against JSerra.
Up north, No. 5 St. Francis (Mountain View) will play No. 10 Serra for the Western Catholic Athletic League championship. Both teams enter the game undefeated.
