Grimsley quarterback Faizon Brandon threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as the Whirlies beat Rolesville 35-23 to win the North Carolina 4A state championship at UNC’s Kenan Stadium on Friday.

The state championship is the second for Grimsley in the last three years and should improve the Whirlies national ranking when the final High School Football 300, powered by NFL Play Football, is released on Sunday. The Whirlies entered Friday night’s game ranked No. 43. Rolesville was ranked No. 72.

It’s the second time this year that Grimsley beat Rolesville. The Whirlies won 35-20 on August 30.

Brandon, a junior who has given his verbal to Tennessee, was 9-for-13 for 182 yards.

The win wraps up a perfect 16-0 season for Grimsley. Rolesville finishes 14-2 with the only losses coming against the Whirlies
