Pierce County needed overtime before defeating Oconee County 13-7 Wednesday for Georgia’s 4A state championship, which is the first-ever for the Bears. Oconee County ranked No. 1 in Class 4A.
Running back DJ Bell scored on the Bears’ first offensive play of overtime on a 15 yard run. The sophomore running back had 158 rushing yards and scored both of Pierce’s touchdowns in a game that was scoreless until the fourth quarter.
