Bobby Acosta is the new head coach at IMG Academy, bringing 20-years of college experience to the Bradenton, Florida campus. Acosta replaces Kevin Wright, who after losing only two games (Wright’s record 44-2) in his time as the program’s head coach, left for a job with the Indiana Hoosier. IMG finished No. 6 in the High School Football America 100 last year.
Today, on the High School Football America Podcast, I spoke with Coach Acosta about taking-over as the Ascenders’ head coach.

The Ascenders’ 2020 roster is, once again, filled with top talent, especially upfront. IMG’s top college football prospect in the Class of 2020 is offensive tackle JC Latham, who is ranked as the 42nd best overall college football prospect in the nation in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. Joining him on the offensive line is Michigan-recruit Greg Crippen (senior), who is a 4-star recruit, and 3-star recruit Weston Franklin (senior). Lineman Tyler Booker is a 4-star recruit from the Class of ’22.
They’ll be trying to open big holes for junior-to-be running back Kaytron Allen, who’s a 4-star college football prospect. Allen ran for 1,097 yards last year with 16 TDs.
Quarterback DJ Boney, returns for his senior season, after completing 57-percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and only one interception. He also ran for 273 yards and four touchdowns.
Boney’s targets will be wideouts Malik Brown and Corey Palmer, who are three-star recruits.
On defense, the Ascenders have three senior 4-star recruits — defensive end Tunmise Adeleye, linebacker Sam Ofurie and cornerback Kamar Wilcoxson.
Senior Markevious Brown is a 3-star cornerback for IMG, along with senior linebackers Jared Behrens and Jamarion Ellis. Safety Omar Burroughs, Jr., a senior, is another 3-star player on defense.
From the Class of ’22, 4-star defensive tackles Walter Nolen and Dominick James will add to an already formidable defense, In the secondary, 4-star junior safety Myles Rowser has already verbally committed to Michigan.
