St. John Bosco (CA) and St. Edward (OH) make moves in National Top 25

It was an interesting weekend, with every Top 25 team winning, except for former #24 Bergen Catholic (New Jersey) losing a close road game to St. Edward in Ohio.  However, several of the top teams — St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) and Byrnes (South Carolina) — were challenged well into the fourth quarter before picking-up come-from-behind victories.

Top-ranked Allen (Texas) was challenged by Marcus, which came into the game undefeated.  The game was tied at 28, before the Eagles were able to pull away for their 48th straight win, which currently is the fourth longest active streak in America.

For the first time in three weeks, there’s a change within the Top 10 as St. John Bosco (California) slides from #6 to #5 after an impressive 56-14 road win over two-time New Jersey Group 4 Non-Public champ St. Peter’s Prep.  St. Thomas Aquinas drops from #5 to #6 after beating Hallandale 36-28 with two fourth quarter touchdowns.

St. Ed’s win against Bergen Catholic helped the Eagles move-up in our algorithm rankings.  The Eagles, who will play two very good Florida teams over the next two weeks, move up two spots to #19.  Next up for St. Ed is Cocoa, which was ranked in the USA TODAY Super 25 earlier in the year.  In two weeks, the defending Ohio Division I champs will play #17 Mainland.

New to the poll this week is Colerain from Ohio at #24.  The Cardinals have spent the entire year knocking on the Top 25 door as part of our The Other 25 (teams #26 through #50).  Colerain’s only loss was by three points to #10 La Salle.

Bergen Catholic drops-out of the Top 25, but shouldn’t gone down to far when we release our The Other 25 on Monday.

There are meetings this week between Top 25 teams that will shape the national championship chase.

In Florida, #16 IMG Academy, coming-off a bye week, will play #15 St. Joseph Regional from New Jersey.  In South Carolina, #23 Spartanburg will take-on #25 Byrnes.
