With a majority of states either in the postseason or heading into the first round of the playoffs, the High School Football America 100 welcomes two new teams this week — Plant (Florida) at No. 99 and Massillon Washington (Ohio) at No. 100.
Florida’s Carol City moves up from No. 13 to No. 10 after knocking-off former No. 4 Miami Central. However, it should be noted that we’re still looking last week’s decision by the Florida High School Athletic Association that forced the Chiefs to forfeit their first two wins of the season against nationally-ranked American Heritage (Plantation, FL) and Columbus. It was determined that Carol City used two ineligible players in the wins.
From the HSFA 100 algorithm perspective, we’re looking into whether the ineligible players affected the outcome of the wins. What we’ve been able to determine, so far, is that the players didn’t impact the outcomes, but we’ll release our official ruling this week, which could ultimately change Carol City’s ranking when we release our new Top 100 next Sunday.
Earlier this year, Mater Dei (California) and Mission Viejo (California) self-reported the use of ineligible players, but didn’t lose their national rankings because the player in question didn’t affect the ultimate outcome of the game.

*Mater Dei (California) forfeited its opening game victory against Bishop Amat (California) for self-reporting using an ineligible player. However, because the player didn’t affect the on-field outcome, it is still calculated as a victory in our algorithm.
**Mission Viejo (California) forfeited its first four victories for self-reporting using an ineligible player. However, because the player didn’t affect the on-field outcomes, the four games are still calculated as victories in our algorithm.
***Carol City (Florida) forfeited its first two victories against nationally-ranked American Heritage (Plantation, FL) and Columbus (Florida) for using ineligible players. High School Football America is still trying to determine whether the players affected the on-field outcomes. A determination will be made this week.
****American Heritage (Plantation, FL) awarded forfeit victory after loss against Carol City.
*****Columbus (Florida) awarded forfeit victory after loss against Carol City.
